I understand that I will never understand. However, I stand with you.

One of the phrases I have always tried to live by is this:

Be the change you wish to see in the world.

It's one of those things that's easier said than done. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the best course of action truly is, and that's because life can be kinda of complicated at times.

But you know what's not complicated? Knowing the basic difference between right and wrong.

So I wanted to take a moment to say to the women of color in this community that I see you.
I'm listening. I'm learning. I'm white, and I will never fully understand, but I stand with you.
I acknowledge my privilege, and I will always try to use it to advocate for you.

Someone I know recently posted a meme that said looting from a store is equal to murdering a man in the street, in broad daylight, while being recorded. (I will not share that meme for obvious reasons. Do not even ask me.)

I called her out on that BS and told her that you cannot equate stealing with murder. And she disagreed with me and unfriended me.

THIS IS WHY PEOPLE FUCKING RIOT.

Obviously we all know stealing is wrong. Like, duh, it's one of the first things we're taught as children. You know what another one of those things kids are taught is?

DON'T HURT OTHER PEOPLE.

Items can, and will, be replaced. Those businesses will be compensated from their insurance companies. They are inconvenienced for a little while. And, in fact, many of those business owners have jumped onto social media to DEFEND the riots! (Yes, really. Look it up.)

PEOPLE ARE IRREPLACEABLE. If you kill someone, insurance will not give them a new life. They don't get to pick up the pieces, buy a new window, and continue on.

Murder is absolutely and forever and always worse than stealing. And if you think otherwise, you need to go work on yourself.

If we want to make the world a better place, we need to start with ourselves. I will never understand, but I will stand with you.
